Hmmm, we're back into December again now... anyone have any New Year's musical goals or resolutions they hope to work on for the new year?

Had another go with my flute head on my Dixon Duo, it was much better this time, so it was just my unfamiliarity with it. happys

Yippee! sun

My (made to order) Shearwater low 'F' just arrived....... so after checking it over, & warming it up..... I gave it a blow.......

It's comfortable to hold, has a lovely tone, & a fairly easy second octave - I'd say it is well worth the money. thumbsup

It's more breathy than my high 'D'  ABS piccolo & my delrin low 'D' flute, but may just be down to my technique with it.

Early days....

I thought that one of the known differences between flutes and whistles is the more breathiness involved with playing flutes.  But maybe I'm wrong, or maybe it wouldn't effect a whistle with a flute head put on it?

My Duo just came this morning. thumbsup

First impressions :-

Whistle nice tone & fairly easy second octave.

With the flute head, breathy, (but could just be me, as I'm still finding my embouchure for flutes).

The Duo is an aluminium body with two heads in ABS plastic, one is a whistle, the other is a flute, & yes, tunable.

What do you mean by a 'duo'?  Brass and polymer? Trad?  And are they tunable?

It's all in the details... we want to know!   nerd2

It just arrived, & I could hardly wait to get it out of its box.........it has a lovely tone. thumbsup

(Can't find anything wrong with it to class it as a 'B' stock item.)

....& now, owing to a thread 'on another forum', I will soon be having a Low 'D' Howard joining the 'collection'. grin

As I found out that they sell 'B' stock at considerably less - so whilst it may not be perfect to look at, it should still sound & play perfectly.

(... & I don't really play anything much higher than my 'A' whistles now that I have them, truth be known.) flute

P.S. As it isn't the New Year yet, no resolution has been broken. giggle2

Collecting whistles is way cheaper than collecting guitars or violins.  !

I can relate. After you have the first three of any type of instrument, my criteria then becomes:  if you spend more time reading about or shopping for another one than you do actually playing ones you have... then maybe you need to rethink.  giggle2

So, having purchased a number of whistles recently, I was thinking that, maybe, I should make a resolution not to purchase any more........... crossfingers whistle
