What's your favourite whistle made of?
General penny whistle or music discussions
Goldfinch- not familiar with those. Are they white PVC like what I see when googling them? What key is yours in? They look very pretty in that cream color.

Oh my goodness, well I would definitely NOT sneeze right into the whistle.
If i was playing with others, they would keep going while I take two seconds to sneeze, for sure. I'm sure the audience will understand in any case, even if you have to stop for a moment.
Usually when playing any instrument, if I'm tapping my foot:
If the music is 4/4 ("common time", 4 beats per measure) I'll tap on the 1st and 3rd beat in each measure. In other words, ONE two THREE four.
If Im playing a waltz or 3/4 tune (3 beats per measure), I'll tap my foot only on the ONE beat in each measure... ONE two three. I hope that helps.
Look at that title! A case study in the value of proof reading. Can it be changed to, "Off Putting?

Done.
People used to sing and play lots of songs and tunes back in the old days (pre radio) that had themes of murder and mayhem. It was a form of entertainment that also doubled as societal moral warning and guidance. Nowadays there is still plenty of murderous entertainment but more in the form of video games and movies.
Hi Bridget, welcome! The pennywhistle is indeed full of melodic charm, and I love that we can spend either much or very little to get a good playable instrument. That makes it so accessible to everyone.
Have you played other instruments as well in the past, or is the whistle your first experience in playing music?
Does the video link below work for you when I copy/paste it? It's working fine for me.
Prząśniczka on Slavic tin whistle (svirel)
That is very cool, I did know know about these svirel. Pretty sound. Can you say what makes svirels different from pennywhistles then, aside from being made from wood?
(Your first link did not want to open the first time I clicked on it, but now all your links seem to open and play no problem for me here.)
I like the traditional look of plain brass on a penny whistle, doesn't matter to me if it's bright and polished or tarnished with use. Definitely not fancy, but it's just lovely to my eye.
rogue-whistles
I wonder, has anyone ever seen a copper pennywhistle? (with a plastic mouthpiece I would assume)
"How did you get interested in the penny whistle?"
I have vague memories of my father playing the recorder and the flute when i was very little (he passed away when i was 4). I suspect that's part of the reason I've always been fond of the sound of woodwind instruments... flutes, whistles, recorders.
Wow those are such pretty instruments! Are they wooden?
I like how they sound- I guess the wood makes them sound a little similar to recorders... mellow and warm.
Does it get confusing for you to switch back and forth between them and standard pennywhistles?
I have a few frame drums that I enjoy for fun, but have never been able to get good on them. 😥
What's the etiquette for joining in on a jam in a public music festival that has fiddles, guitars, banjo, and maybe bass... but nobody playing a penny whistle?
Is the whistle considered to be a 'problem' instrument or too loud... so that one should always ask before joining in the fun? Like if it's a folk, bluegrass, or oldtime session- would they not like a penny whistler to join?
Asking for a friend.
